Alfa will launch a new car manufacturing factory in China. Right at the start the Chinese carmaker, Chery will manufacture the 159 and 147 models.
News >> 2007
According to Automotive news, Alfa and Chery will subscribe the joint venture in October, but they subscribed a statement just now.
The expansion is explained by the Chinese market. It’s well-growing and stable for years and Fiat Auto hasn’t got any sales network in the Asian country. They only produce Fiat and Alfa models for special orders. At the Wuhu-based factory they start to produce Alfa’s two most-successful models, the 147 and 159, the engines will be produced by one of Chery’s subsidiaries.
By the meaning of the other part of the joint-venture, Chery will produce 1.6 and 1.8 litre petrol engine, 100.000 pieces a year for Fiat, but there’s no word about the using of these engines in Europe.
Chery is China’s biggest car manufacturing company, it will produce 175.000 Alfa, Fiat and Chery models a year by 2009. These cars will be sold only in the Chinese market.

It will be a car from metal or from paper?!?!?! I'm not interested in a car which is made from paper, it's not giving for me the impression what I feel when I see a real car.
