Alfa Romeo realized the MiTo as a plan in 2006, because the Turin-based factory had no cars to offer for the people aged between 18 and 30.
For the Q2 of 2008 Alfa filled in this hole and they introduced the MiTo named Grande Punto-based car in June.
Notwithstanding that some things weren't go so smooth, because first Alfa called it "Junior", but after a questioned alfa naming contest they renamed it to Furiosa. But because most of tha fans were shocked, Alfa decided to choose an other name from the alfa naming contest, and they named it MiTo. MiTo consists of two italian cities firts two characters, Milano and Torino.
Its design was made by the Centro Stile, who represented the 8C Competizione 2 years before. The engines are brand new - leastwise in the Alfas -, except one, all of them are turbocharged. The basic engine is a 1.4 litre Multiair engine with 78 HP which is followed by the 120 or 155 HP 1.4 Turbo Benzina. For the diesel fans only one unit is available, the 1.6 JTDm with 120 HP. Furthermore a GTA version is expected to come in 2009 with a 1.8 litre turbocharged petrol engine and 230 HP.
The prize of the MiTo starts from € 16.000. With this prize MiTo became a perfect opponent for the Mini.
